Its appeal is reinforced by the fact that it combines with incredible off-road power and road refinement, offers a wide range of luxury appointments and features, and has a sleek exterior look that Jeep buyers love. Three powertrains are offered, including standard V-6 and V-8 options and a new Jeep plug-in-hybrid variant called 4xe. Although the rear-wheel-drive is common in V-6 models, there are no three-wheel drive systems available to help you with whatever your lifestyle needs, whether just walking in snowy weather or rolling rocks in Moab.

The modern cabinet replaces the exterior of the Grand Cherokee exit. While Laredo base models offer essentials, upscale Summit and Overland reviews will add splendor such as leather upholstery, open-pore wood trim, and high-quality digital displays. The Grand Cherokee is a two-line SUV, but buyers looking for a third line can upgrade to the Grand Cherokee L, which we review separately. We have not had the opportunity to test the new Grand Cherokee yet, but we expect it to carry more suitcases than the previous generation model.
Floating just above the Grand Cherokee dashboard is an 8.4- or 10.1-inch touch screen with Apple CarPlay satellite radio, Android Auto, and SiriusXM.
The base engine remains the same as the 3.6-liter V-6. It has a power of 293 hp and comes with a back-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. Three four-wheel-drive systems are available for you to choose from, all with an efficient transmission case for advanced low-speed grip. With high drag requirements or the desire for deep engine thrum, the Jeep still offers the 357-hp 5.7-liter V-8, pulling up to 7,200 lb. Both the 4xe and the V-8 come with only four wheels.
Fuel-saving, the best bet is this year’s new hybrid plug-in, the Grand Cherokee 4xe. It includes a 2.0-liter turbo-4 and 17kwh engine generator with a 375 hp battery and 470 lb-ft of torque and up to 25 miles wide for electric driving. The Jeep measures the EPA average of 57 mpg combined for both gas and electric power. Jeep says 4xe can pull 6,000 lb.
